Lancer Cup

Overview

Lancer Cup is CBU Recreation's premier intramural soccer championship, uniting current students, alumni, and local soccer families to celebrate the spirit of competition. Held on CBU’s soccer field, the final match serves as the culmination of a season’s worth of teamwork, dedication, and athleticism.

Tasked with developing the event’s visual identity, the goal was to create a design that encapsulated both the excitement of soccer and the school spirit of CBU. To achieve this, I incorporated a soccer ball into the logo, grounding the design in the sport while integrating CBU's official colors to evoke school pride. A bold, sans-serif typeface was chosen to reflect the intensity and competitive energy that define the event.

Combination Mark and Visual
System Development

Before beginning the logo design, I conducted thorough research on existing soccer cup branding to better understand the visual language and design trends associated with similar events. With these insights, I created multiple sketches and ultimately refined a concept that resonated with the CBU Campus Recreation professional staff.

To extend the brand identity beyond the logo, I designed a cohesive visual system. I developed a pattern inspired by the geometric elements of a soccer ball, which was then applied across various graphics to ensure visual consistency. A subtle blue light texture was incorporated to enhance the color palette, adding a dynamic, energetic feel to the overall design.

Results

The final graphics were prominently displayed across campus and featured on CBU Recreation’s social media channels, generating significant excitement and anticipation leading up to the championship match. The branding was well-received by both staff and attendees, helping to elevate the overall event experience. It played a key role in boosting attendance and increasing engagement with Lancer Cup, contributing to its success as a high-energy, well-attended event.
