Spring Break
About
Overview:
For Spring Break, California Baptist University’s Outdoor Adventure program organized an exciting student trip to explore the rivers and mountains of Southern Utah. I was commissioned to design promotional materials aimed at generating enthusiasm and driving sign-ups for this immersive experience. The key design element focused on an illustration of the iconic Narrows in Zion National Park, with an emphasis on creating a friendly and inviting atmosphere, particularly for students who might be new to hiking and outdoor exploration.

To kick off the creative process, I conducted in-depth research on Zion National Park and the other locations included in the trip’s itinerary. My primary focus was on capturing the region's striking rock formations and flowing rivers. I drew inspiration from both nature photography and online sources, but it was a post from artist Josiah Queen’s “Promised Land” tour that truly influenced the visual direction. I began by sketching a stylized interpretation of the Narrows and then brought the design into Adobe Illustrator, where I refined it into a clean, vector-based illustration. To complement the imagery, I incorporated bold, playful typography that not only highlighted key trip details but also reinforced the adventurous spirit of the journey.
Results:
The illustration received a highly positive response across campus and was instrumental in the trip’s swift registration success as sign-ups reached full capacity shortly after the campaign launched. Both students and staff remarked that the design effectively captured the essence of the destination, fueling early excitement and engagement. The visuals not only conveyed essential trip details but also inspired students to embark on an adventure they may not have otherwise considered, helping to generate significant buzz and enthusiasm for the experience.
