Overview

CBU Golf’s Simulator is one of the newest additions to the CBU Recreation Center. This new interactive space took the place of a former racquetball court which was transformed into a state-of-the-art golf simulator room. This spot quickly became a popular place for CBU students and employees to practice their swing and connect with others.

As part of the installation process, I was tasked with designing a wall wrap for the glass panels on the exterior of the simulator room. The design needed to follow CBU’s brand guidelines, while also capturing the excitement and essence of golf, with the hope of creating anticipation for the immersive experience awaiting inside.

Illustration

To kick off the creative process, I began researching golf-themed designs and sketching out initial concepts. I wanted the illustration to feature a golf ball on a tee, symbolic of how users would begin their sessions in the simulator. I landed on incorporating a driver since it is one of the primary clubs used in virtual play. I incorporated grass elements to match the turf flooring inside the room, which protects the Recreation Center’s standard hardwood and tile surfaces. To add motion and energy, I layered in various dotted patterns. This was further done to provide the illusion of golf balls being hit at different speeds, suggesting the dynamic feel of a real golf course.

Results

Once finalized, the illustration was sent to CBU’s President and Executive Council for approval and then to CBU’s in-house print and production team for printing and installation. Upon installation of the wall wrap on the glass panels, the simulator room was ready for opening to the public. The final design was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback and played a significant role in increasing foot traffic to the Recreation Center during the 2024–2025 school year.
