Fortuna Bowl XXXII

Overview
Fortuna Bowl, CBU Recreation’s intramural flag football championship, is easily the largest attended event on campus with approximately 10,000 people in attendance. The event attracts current students, alumni, and families together to watch CBU students compete for the championship title.
In previous years, the Fortuna Bowl logo was inspired by Super Bowl or college bowl designs. However, when I was assigned this project, I was informed that the theme would be “1980s”. This direction stemmed from the use of ’80s music during the fireworks show and ’80s trivia games played during timeouts throughout the game.
Combination Mark
Inspired by the movie Back to the Future, I began brainstorming and developing the 2024 Fortuna Bowl Championship logo. The bold, vibrant colors nod to the 1980s aesthetic and build excitement for the nostalgic experience attendees would enjoy throughout the championship. Highlighting the year through the use of roman numerals was also essential, as Fortuna Bowl is a long-standing tradition at CBU. Additionally, I included a football in motion, symbolizing a player’s throw, to reinforce the core of what Fortuna Bowl represents.
Results
Once the logo was finalized, I built out the full campaign, creating a range of collateral and social graphics. The branding was extremely well-received and played a key role in promoting the event. Ultimately, the campaign earned a Bronze American Advertising Award at the Inland Empire competition.
